Turtle Tail Beach

Providenciales
Editor's Comments
Several picturesque small deserted beaches are found in this area, but parking and access is limited. The water here tends to be shallow and several small rocky cays are found out a short distance.
4-star rating for Turtle Tail Beach by Visit Turks and Caicos Islands
The beautiful Turtle Tail Beach.

This area of Providenciales offers several small beaches between the coastal south side rocky bluffs and hills. These small beaches are generally quite scenic, but are not as good for swimming as the more popular north coast beaches of Grace Bay Beach, The Bight Beach and Leeward Beach. This beach is found in the wider Turtle Tail region of Providenciales.

These beaches range in size from about 50 feet (15 m) up to a few hundred feet long. Many of the tiny beaches here are really only accessible from villas along the coast.

The water in this area is quite shallow, often only a few feet deep going out a long distance. At the largest of the Turtle Tail beaches, five small cays are found off the beach and it’s possible to wade out to the closer islands, however, this isn't advised due to safety concerns.

Unfortunately, there are no officially designated public beach accesses to any of the Turtle Tail beaches at this time, but it’s not difficult to get to many of the beaches from the road.

Turtle Tail is a residential area with quite a few rental vacation villas. Except for Bob's Bar at South Side Marina, there are no restaurants or stores located in this region.

Little Five Cays

Not to be confused with the better-known Five Cays region to the west, a tiny archipelago, Little Five Cays, can be found close off the largest of the Turtle Tail Beaches. These limestone ironshore islands are Bristol Cay, the two Dick Penn Cays, and the two Bird Egg Cays.

These little islands are quite scenic, and it’s possible to wade out (especially at low tide) to the Dick Penn Cays, which are the closest to shore. However, this is not advised due to safety concerns.

Dangers

The beach and ocean at the Turtle Tail beaches are generally safe. On of the more significant risks to swimmers are hidden conch shells and rocks in the water and on the beach. These obstacles can cause lacerations if stepped on.

Turtle Tail Beach Accesses

The largest of the Turtle Tail beaches is the easiest to access, and is found by following Venetian Road from Leeward Highway for 3.25 miles (5.2 km). The Little Five Cays Beach Access here leads to the largest stretch of beach in the area, and also offers an excellent spot for launching kayaks.

The Bristol Hill Point Beach Access leads to a smaller beach nearby.
