Providenciales Yacht Charters

Editor's Comments
Yacht charters allow you to customize your excursion to suit your exact destination, activity, and even dining preferences. These private boat trips are offered at higher rates than shared cruises, but can be cost-effective for larger groups or families.

Turks and Caicos has a great selection of luxury yacht charters across a wide range of vessels, from powerboats to super yachts and cruising catamarans. Most are based on the main island of Providenciales. Half-day charters, full-day charters, and sunset cruises are the most popular types. Yacht charters in Turks and Caicos do not typically follow a fixed schedule or itinerary—instead, the activities and adventures are customized to the guest's requests.

Some companies offer passenger pickup at some of the remote high-end resorts, such as Amanyara or Parrot Cay Resort, typically for an additional fee. In most cases, yacht charters depart from one of the main marinas on Providenciales (South Bank Marina, Blue Haven Marina, and the Turtle Cove Marina are popular launching points).

Why Book a Yacht Charter?

Compared to a shared cruise, a private boat is often the better choice for large groups and families, as the total rate can be comparable to the sum of individual rates for a group booking a public cruise. There's usually a set rate for half-day and full-day trips, with the option to add on additional time or experiences (like a private chef lunch, jet skis, or wakesurfing lessons).

These vessels tend to offer a more comfortable experience than the usual tour boat, as they are often larger, more stable, and less cramped. Some even have air-conditioned interiors. These features make trips to farther destinations, such as West Caicos and French Cay, much more enjoyable.

Yachts and Amenities

The fleet of vessels available for private charter in Turks and Caicos includes everything from small and fast boats to 90-foot (27 m) super yachts with deck jacuzzis. Axopar day yachts are particularly popular and are operated by several companies, as these boats have a shallow draft that allows them to navigate shallow bays and flats that many larger vessels cannot. So are cruising catamarans and power catamarans, which offer a large and spacious bow and stability at sea.

Amenities onboard depend on the vessel and company. Larger luxury vessels usually offer the greatest selection of amenities, such as enclosed and air-conditioned cabins complete with full bathrooms, comfortable seating, and (on some boats) elegant bedrooms for term charters (multi-day trips). Yachts that offer onboard dining experiences are typically equipped with one or more dining areas, a full-service bar, and a proper kitchen (galley).

A super yacht isn't necessary if you simply want to go snorkeling, visit a few cays, or try a wake sport, but is appealing for groups that want a truly luxurious experience. These boats also tend to have something for the whole family onboard, whether it's jet skis or sea scooters for playing in the water, a sun deck for lounging, or flat-screen TVs for watching sports.

What's Included?

Turks and Caicos yacht charters typically include alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, snacks, and snorkeling gear at minimum. No local companies currently offer yachts for hire (boat rentals), so all vessels come with a captain. The crew depends on the vessel's size—larger boats may also have a first mate and one or more stewards. Larger yachts usually also include use of a smaller tender boat for exploring areas the main vessel can't access.

Typically not included are add-on experiences, specialty water sports packages, and gratuities for staff. Depending on the duration of your trip, more substantial food (a full lunch or dinner, for example) may cost extra.

Yacht Charter Destinations

The beach at Water Cay
Water Cay, Turks and Caicos.

With over 100 named islands and cays, Turks and Caicos doesn’t disappoint when it comes to island hopping. There are scores of spectacular and pristine beaches with turquoise water to discover at the country's cays, as well as hidden lagoons, birdlife, rock iguanas, and glimmering snorkeling reefs offshore.

A private charter is one of the top recommended vacation activities, as it offers guests the opportunity to experience the best of the archipelago at their own pace. Unlike the shared half-day and full-day cruises that tend to follow a regular route and itinerary, these trips are custom-designed to suit your interests.

Much of the water around the islands is incredibly shallow, which limits how close large yachts with deep drafts can get to certain sights and attractions. To compensate, these vessels often travel with a smaller tender boat.

The Caicos Cays

The sandy islands of Little Water Cay, Water Cay, Pine Cay, and Fort George Cay (and beautiful Half Moon Bay beach) near Providenciales are an amazing place to anchor for the day, and are the top boating destination for many charters. It's less than a 10-minute boat ride from Providenciales to Little Water Cay, also known as Iguana Island, which is a sanctuary for the Turks and Caicos Islands rock iguana. The Caicos Cays are easy and fun to explore on an Axopar day yacht or a cruising catamaran, and by tender boat for excursions aboard larger vessels with deeper drafts (as their surrounding waters can be shallow). You can also find wonderful ocean sandbars here that make you feel like you've discovered your own private beach.

French Cay

The nature reserve and wildlife sanctuary of French Cay is approximately a one-hour boat ride from Providenciales. Renowned for its incredible wall diving sites, this tiny island also attracts fascinating birdlife. Offshore, nurse sharks have been known to congregate. While there are restrictions on landing on the cay, its surrounding waters are a gorgeous place to spend the day.

West Caicos

The spectacular blue waters of the West Caicos Marine National Park are truly unique in the Caribbean and North Atlantic. Uninhabited West Caicos is the last island to the west in the country, and is a top boating destination with features everyone can enjoy.

These include Bernard Bay (a sheltered beach with impeccable water), scenic coastal cliffs where you can try cliff-jumping, great snorkeling, the historical site of Yankee Town, and an inland saline lake where flamingos flock. Due to the travel distance from Grace Bay, many scheduled cruises don’t make it out to West Caicos.

Water Sports and Activities

There are so many water sports to try in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and a great way to learn or practice them at your own pace is on a private boat charter. Sports offered vary by company, but can include wakesurfing, wakeboarding, snorkeling, subwinging, and jet skiing. Some boats even have e-foils and sea scooters you can use at your leisure.

Snorkeling

The vibrant barrier reef off the Caicos Islands.

No two snorkeling sites in Turks and Caicos are alike. There are small sheltered reefs that support large populations of reef fish, sections of the barrier reef with dreamy yellow sea fan beds, and the deep blue open ocean off the wall.

As custom cruises are more likely to travel the extra distance to the best locations, your chances of spotting dolphins and humpback whales (when in season) are greater on these trips than on a shared cruise. Sometimes, you even have the opportunity to swim with them.

Common snorkeling sightings include sea turtles, stingrays, lobsters, pufferfish, and yellowtails. On yacht charters, there's often a crew member who acts as a snorkel guide and points out interesting and well-camouflaged sea creatures that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Sport Fishing

There's great bottom fishing and deep sea sport fishing in Turks and Caicos (often less than a 20-minute boat ride from the marina). Some private yachts can be outfitted for deep sea fishing upon request.

A luxury charter yacht can be worth the extra cost for serious anglers, as these boats usually have top-of-the-line equipment and higher levels of service. Some larger yachts have kitchens where a private chef can prepare a gourmet lunch from your catch for an extra fee.

Scuba Diving

While it requires advance planning, some yacht charter companies offer private scuba diving as a specialty experience. This is a great way to dive the country's amazing coral reefs at your own pace, receive undivided attention from your divemaster or instructor, and have greater say in the type of diving you'd like to do. As with other amenities onboard, diving equipment tends to be top-of-the-line on these vessels.

Some private yachts require that you already have the proper certifications (from PADI, SSI, or another recognized dive training organization) to dive with them, while others offer entry-level courses and teaching for beginners. Great dive sites include Pine Cay, Northwest Point National Park, French Cay, and the amazing West Caicos Marine National Park.

Freediving

Private boat charters can transport you to many of the beautiful and interesting underwater sights (both shallow and at mid-depths), where coral reefs, shipwrecks, and curious marine life await. Freediving lessons can be paired with a private excursion to some of the best freediving sites in the area.

Refreshments and Dining

It's standard for yacht charters to include beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) and hors d'oeuvres on half-day charters, and a full lunch on day trips. While most boat cruises in the islands offer the quintessential bottomless rum punch, luxury charters tend to have a wider and better range of beverage choices, including champagne, wine, and imported beers. Lunch can consist of gourmet sandwiches, fresh BBQ, or (upon request) catering from your favorite local restaurant.

At additional cost, yachts with a galley (kitchen) can arrange a private chef to prepare a special gourmet lunch or sunset dinner onboard for your group. Most companies and chefs can accommodate specific dietary restrictions and work around allergies with a few days' notice. Identify any food restrictions or specific requests when you book, as niche ingredients may need to be shipped in advance.

Beach BBQ lunches are another great option on these private trips. There’s no better dining setting than one of the perfect white-sand Turks and Caicos beaches.

Turks and Caicos Yacht Charter Costs

Price varies by company, but private boat charters on smaller vessels and speed boats start at around $2,000 for a half-day trip (2026 price). The price is typically fixed for a certain number of passengers, and additional passengers are charged extra.

Sailing catamarans or large yachts with air-conditioned cabins and interior spaces start at around $6,000 for four hours.

A 12% Government Tourism Tax is applied to tour prices. This may or may not be included in the listed price. Other add-ons that aren't usually included are a private chef, water sports like jet skis, wakeboarding, e-foiling, or tubing, and gratuities for the crew.

Reservations and Booking

Private charters often visit the more remote locations in the Turks and Caicos, like the incredible West Caicos Marine National Park.

Charters can be booked directly through the business (which typically results in the best rates) or through your local accommodation or concierge service.

During the December to April tourism high season, charter availability may be limited. It’s advisable to make reservations well in advance of your scheduled visit. Most companies require a deposit upon booking.

Special Occasions

Book early if you're hiring a yacht for a special occasion like a wedding, honeymoon, surprise proposal, or corporate event. Not only will you secure your date, but this gives the company additional time to organize special add-ons (like a live musician, decorations, or special meals or desserts).

Cancellations

Due to the popularity and specialty nature of these trips, canceling an excursion close to the scheduled departure date may incur stringent fees (as it's unlikely that the company can get a new booking with little notice). Some companies require 24 hours' notice, while others may require as much as 20 days' notice.

If a boat trip is canceled due to weather, the company will typically reschedule or refund you at no charge.
