Jack's Shack
Governor's Beach, Grand Turk
Jack’s Shack Bar and Grill is a beachfront restaurant that primarily caters to cruise ship visitors, as it is a short drive away from the Grand Turk Cruise Center. While it was once little more than an unassuming tiki hut, Jack's Shack has undergone significant renovations in recent years and is now one of the largest beachfront restaurants on the island. The cuisine is primarily Caribbean and bar and grill food (ranging from local whole fish to cheeseburgers).
Fronting the restaurant is the southern end of beautiful Governor's Beach, from which numerous boat tours depart.
Like Margaritaville, the ambiance at Jack's Shack can be quite loud and boisterous. If you're looking for a calmer dining experience, visit one of the smaller Grand Turk restaurants.
Food and Drink Menu
The establishment encourages a "No shirt? No shoes? No problem!" sort of atmosphere, and serves island fare that includes jerk chicken, freshly caught fish, burgers, and hot dogs. It is a convenient place for cruise visitors to try the local seafood of conch, a marine mollusk that's prepared here as cracked conch or conch fritters.
Jack's Shack is also known for its tasty cocktails and margaritas. Alternatively, you can try the full range of local Turk's Head beers, which are brewed right in the country.
Limited vegetarian options are available (mainly salad and their falafel wrap).
Visiting and Reservations
As is true for many of Grand Turk’s attractions, most businesses operate only when one or more cruise ships are in port. If you are an overnight visitor in search of a far more lively visit to the nation’s capital, be sure to check the Grand Turk Port schedule prior to planning your trip.
Jack's Shack can get very busy and wait times can be long, especially when multiple cruise ships are visiting. Plan your visit at least a few hours before your ship's departure time. While the restaurant has an express menu of quicker-to-prepare items for patrons on a tight schedule, service can be slow. The restaurant accepts reservations up to two months in advance.
Distance From Cruise Center
Jack's Shack is about a 10–15 minute walk up the beach from the pier at the Grand Turk Cruise Center. It is about a 5-minute golf cart ride from the port. The heat can make this walk uncomfortable for some.
Restaurant Amenities

Jack’s Shack can accommodate large groups and even host island weddings. Most days, it offers a beautiful viewing place for Grand Turk's famous sunsets. Families are welcome at the restaurant.
You can also rent snorkel gear and beach floaties to hop on and enjoy the view from the ocean.
The restaurant has free WiFi for patrons and accepts both credit card and cash payments.
Beach Chair Rentals
Jack's Shack rents beach chairs and umbrellas on Governor's Beach for patrons of the restaurant. The cost per beach chair is $6 (2026 price), and chairs can be reserved in advance of your visit. Two beach chairs plus an umbrella for the day is $23.
Beach Dogs
Jack's Shack has several beach dogs that act as mascots for the establishment. Calypso, who the restaurant claims is "the world’s second most photographed dog," is the establishment’s beloved Golden Doodle.
Snorkeling
The snorkeling at this beach isn't great, though you'll likely see a few fish and interesting shells. Book a dedicated snorkeling cruise with one of the local providers or dive shops if you'd like to see impressive reefs and larger sea life.
Whale Sightings
Between late December and early April, humpback whales migrate to the Turks and Caicos to breed. Whales swim so near to the wall (a sheer coral reef approximately 700 feet off the island’s shoreline) that it's possible to spot them while relaxing at Jack’s Shack. Keep your eyes on the horizon for a possible sighting (or book a whale-watching tour).
What's Nearby
Like the Cruise Center, Jack's Shack is rather isolated from the main attractions and things to do on Grand Turk. It's about a 2.2-mile (3.5 km) drive to Cockburn Town, the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands where the Turks and Caicos National Museum and several other attractions are located.
The Cruise Center (which has Margaritaville, the country's only Starbucks, and the FlowRider surf simulator) is the only real attraction nearby.
Rent a golf cart, ATV, or car if you want to explore the island. Car rentals are typically more comfortable for visiting the farther attractions, like the Grand Turk Lighthouse.
Other Grand Turk Attractions
Grand Turk is a great change of pace from the touristy atmosphere of Providenciales and many Caribbean islands, and the quiet island offers an authentic glimpse into times past. Donkeys roam the streets looking for a tasty treat, while flamingos spill out of the salinas. There is an uninterrupted charm and beauty about this quaint island that seems to creep in under the visitor’s skin.
The Grand Turk Lighthouse, H.M. Prison, and National Museum are the main attractions to visit.
Located in Governor's Beach
The residence of the Governor of the Turks and Caicos is located directly on this spectacular beach. The beach is within walking distance from the Cruise Center, and—on days when cruise ships are in port—you can find many passengers swimming and snorkeling here. Beach vendors sell souvenirs and cold drinks. Bathroom facilities are available at this beach.
